Friday Keynote Speaker: Doneen McDowell
Manufacturing Executive Director, GMNA Engine and GMCH Sites
Making Manufacturing a Competitive Advantage
Doneen McDowell currently leads the engine and component manufacturing in GM North America across 10 sites. She was appointed to this position in February of 2018. Prior to this position, she was the Executive Director Global / GMNA Manufacturing Engineering – Vehicles Systems for 3 years. The organization she led was responsible to develop the Global Bill of Process and Bill of Equipment standards and new technology advancements in the areas of paint, general assembly, conveyors, and controls and robotics.
Prior to those positions, she served the dual role of Plant Manager at General Motors’ Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant and Brownstown Battery Assembly Plant in Brownstown, Mich. She was named Plant Manager at Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant in April 2012 and at Brownstown Battery Assembly in March 2014.
Her background includes experience working in several manufacturing disciplines including Assembly, Stamping, and Powertrain. Over the past 20 years, she has worked in nine different manufacturing facilities and has had the opportunity to work across several functions including Supply Chain, Engineering, and Operations. McDowell joined GM in 1997.
In 2015, Doneen was recognized in Automotive News as one of the 100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry. McDowell also served a term on the Board of Directors for the non-profit organization, Neighborhood Service Organization (NSO) in Detroit, MI from 2014 to 2017.
McDowell earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio in 1993, and a Master of Science degree in Manufacturing Management from Kettering University in Flint, Mich. in 2001. She was raised in Ellwood City, PA.
Outside of work, McDowell enjoys spending time with her husband and three children.
